The Bell Jar
Hace algunos veranos me encontré en medio de una crisis
existencial que parecía no terminar. En ese momento llego “The Bell jar” a mi
vida para definir muchas cosas y rescatarme del abismo. Me sentí demasiado
identificada con la escritura de Sylvia y con esos momentos donde yo también me
encontraba atrás de la campana de cristal. Hoy celebramos el cumpleaños de esta
increíble obra de la literatura y decidí dedicarle mi post a ella. Lamento la
falta de relación con el post por lo que complementaré las imágenes con frases
de “The Bell jar”.
A few summers ago I found myself in the midst of an existential crisis that seemed not finish. At that time I got "The Bell Jar" on my life, it helped me to define many things and to rescue me from the abyss. I was too identified with Sylvia's writing and those moments where I also found myself behind the Bell Jar. Today we celebrate the birthday of this great work of literature so I decided to dedicate my post to it. Because of the lack of connection with the post, I will complete the images with quotes from "The Bell Jar".

I Amsterdam
Once in a
lifetime you visit a place that blows your mind and change your view of
everything. Once in a lifetime you visit Amsterdam for the first time and you
fall in love with a city that is not in your blood. I can`t wait to come back
to visit again this beautiful city full of incredible kind people. I am still
enjoying slowly this great experience. Let´s stop the words and start the
images.

Let’s take a break to talk about Lauren Bacall
Mi infancia estuvo llena de imágenes a blanco y negro. Mientras más vieja era la película, mejor. Aunque mi papá siempre prefirió el cine mexicano, el glamour de la época dorada del cine me llevó a explorar territorios partiendo de Dolores del Rio y María Félix (La última colección de Médium está inspirada en las divas mexicanas).
My childhood was full of black and white images. If the movie was older, was better. Although my dad always preferred the Mexican cinema, the glamor of the golden age led me to explore territories starting with Dolores del Río and Marìa Felix (The last Médium collection is inspired by Mexican divas).
Así fue como conocí a Bogart. Más bien; así fue como me enamoré de Bogart. Recostarme en vacaciones en el sofá a ver películas viejas se convirtió en mi pasatiempo favorito. Olvidaba por completo mi vida cotidiana para entregarme a vivir ese irreal mundo lleno de labial rojo y trajes sastre por una hora con cuarentaicinco. (La rosa púrpura del Cairo, ¿alguien?)
That was how I met Bogart. In fact that's how I fell in love with Bogart. Lie on the couch on vacations, watching old movies, became my favorite amusement. I forgot completely my daily life to live the unreal world of red lipstick and tailored suits for an hour and forty-five. ("The Purple Rose of Cairo", anyone?)
Bogart no fue el primero, pero sí el que me impactó más profundo. Lo mismo pasó con Bacall. A los nueve años no tenía Google a la mano por lo que no pude enterarme que fueron pareja sino hasta años después. Mis cosas favoritas siempre se unen. Siempre se unen.
Bogart wasn't the first, but he was the one who struck me deeper. Same with Bacall. At age nine, Google wasn't around so I couldn't notice they were a couple until years later. My favorite things always come together. Always.
Recuerdo “Tener y no tener”, mi favorita de Bacall. Bogart tenía que estar presente y Hemingway también. Y como olvidar “How to Marry a Millionaire”. Esas fueron las participaciones en el cine de Bacall especialmente grabadas en mi mente. No podía creer como una chica podía ser tan perfecta, como podía ser tan elegante, caminar con tanta destreza. La mirada de Bacall siempre me sedujo. ¡Y qué decir de su voz! Creo entender lo que Bogie amó de ella.
I remember "To Have and Have Not", my favorite Bacall's movie. Bogart had to be present and also Hemingway. ¡And what about "How to Marry a Millionaire"!. Those were the contributions in Bacall's films especially recorded in my mind. I could not believe how a girl could be as perfect and so elegant, and her walking so skillfully. Bacall's eyes always attracted me. And her voice! I understand what Bogie loved about her.
En cuestión de estilo, siempre me impactaron las enormes hombreras y los cortes de sastrería que competían con los trajes impecables de sus pares en la pantalla grande. Lauren Bacall fue la antecesora del estilo "Annie Hall" de Diane Keaton; siempre supo lucir piezas básicas masculinas combinadas con nada más que su sensualidad. Por ratos me doy cuenta lo mucho que Bacall influyó en mí y no hablo únicamente de estilo.
If we talk about style, I always loved the huge shoulder pads and tailoring cuts, competing with the impeccable suits of his big screen peers. Lauren Bacall was the predecessor of the Diane Keaton "Annie Hall" style; she always knew how to wear male basic pieces combined with nothing but her sensuality. Sometimes I realize how much Bacall influenced me and I don't speak only about style.

You can not be friends with Yves Saint Laurent without a good personal style to express ... and a lot of sophistication. That was Lauren, the true diva off screen, who never loses her composure and elegance, staying away from controversy and Hollywood destabilization.
La belleza de Bacall es innegable. Inició su carrera como modelo de Vogue, elegida como portada para Harper`s a los diecisiete años. “El estrellato es un accidente, no una profesión”. Ese fue el inicio de todo, así fue como llegó al cine, como conoció a Bogart, tuvieron dos hijos, actúo en Broadway, en dos películas de Lars von Trier y compró muchas pieles, muchas, muchas pieles.
Bacall's beauty is undeniable. She began her career as a Vogue model, chosen as cover for Harper`s with only seventeen years old. "The stardom is an accident, not a profession." That was the beginning of everything, that`s how she started into films, that`s how she and Bogart met, they had two children, acted on Broadway, in two films by Lars von Trier and bought many furs, many, many furs.

Bacall hay pocas personas. Ella era el personaje. Ella es el ícono. Tomaré un descanso esta tarde
para ver nuevamente a Bacall y a Bogart juntos, talvez en “The big sleep”,
talvez en “Dark passage”.
There is just a few people like Lauren Bacall. She was the character. She is the icon. I will take a break this afternoon to see again Bacall and Bogart together, perhaps in "The big sleep", perhaps in "Dark Passage".

Yesterday Jam: Rain just started
Aún no le digo adiós a los estampados veraniegos, prefiero una transición pausada a las prendas invernales.
Los vestidos largos fueron mi principal arma este verano, tan cómodos y libres. Supongo que los charcos y el frío me impedirán usarlos próximamente así que exprimo los últimos minutos del verano para vestir mi maxi en equinoccio.
I refuse to say goodbye to summer prints, I prefer a slow transition to winter clothes.
Maxi dresses were my main weapon this summer, so comfortable and free. I guess the puddles and cold weather will prevent me to wear them soon so I`ll squeeze the last summer minutes to wear my summer maxi dress on equinox.

The Queen of Coachella
I must confess. I am in love. In love with Vanessa Hudgens Coachella version ( the Disney girl is not included in my fantasy). This is the perfect way to pair a complete festival outfit. We must learn, not copy but learn. ( Remember that next year this is going to be "too last year" so save the moment and try your best next year).

Debo confesar. Estoy enamorada. Enamorada de Vanessa Hudgens versión Coachella ( la chica Disney no está incluida en mi fantasía). Esta es la forma perfecta de utilizar un atuendo de festival. Debemos aprender, no copiar sino aprender. ( Recuerden que el próximo año este atuendo será demasiado "año pasado", así que guardemos el momento e intentemos algo mejor el próximo año).

Yesterday Jam: Flores
La primavera está aquí. Puedo sentirla. Las jacarandas muestran sus primeros
brotes, adornando las calles llenas de caos y desorden urbano. El ritmo de vida
se acelera y el calor asfixia. No soy amante del calor, sin embargo me alegra
poder utilizar mis prendas favoritas de verano, volver al colorido y los
estampados para abandonarme seis meses después a mi tradicional closet color
negro profundo. (Oh, esperen...)
Spring is here. The jacaranda is starting to bloom, adorning the streets full of chaos and urban disorder. The life pace accelerates and the heat suffocates. I'm not loving the heat, however I'm happy to use my favorite clothes of summer, back to color and prints to abandon for six months my traditional deep black color closet. (Oh, wait...)
Mi abanico de prendas veraniegas incluye esta falda con
estampado floral clásico, con la forma perfecta, el largo perfecto, el print
perfecto sobre el tejido perfecto. (Y el precio es más que perfecto!). No pude
evitar amarla, ahora es la prenda obligada que no me puedo quitar y que gracias
a su colorido estampado, es fácil combinarla con distintos colores de
temporada.
My range of summer clothes includes this classic skirt with floral print, with perfect form, the perfect length, the perfect print for the perfect fabric. (And the price is more than perfect!). I couldn`t help but loving it, my must piece for this season. Because it`s colorful pattern is easy to combine with different seasonal colors.
El toque divertido con accesorios no podía faltar, al igual
que mis zapatos favoritos de verano y la cartera tipo sobre XXL que seguramente
me acompañarán hasta que la lluvia nos visite.
The fun twist with accessories couldn`t be missed, as my favorite summer shoes and XXL clutch that surely will be with me until the first raindrops.
