Fashion show Revista "Amiga"

Who knows me can tell am not a contest girl. I don´t think you got to compete with other people to realize that everybody got abilities and potential. Your highest competition is always yourself.

Well... I got all that clear in my mind but suddenly I watched this opportunity in the local newspaper and decided to go for it! I wasn´t searching to win (even when it wasn´t bad at all win, specially the big prize), but the intention to share my own perspective in my field, show the way I see fashion and my esthetic.

An avalanche of resort entered in my mind, I don´t know why or what actually happened but I decided to do this two designs full of luxurious resort details such a cliché tropical print detail and pajama silhouette. I enjoyed a lot the whole process and I was pretty excited to join other designers into a unique show, organized by Prensa Libre, the magazine “Amiga” and their sponsors.

At the end I was surprised to be selected as the winner of the Pret-a-porter category. You know is my favorite one! I love the pieces we can wear every day, something that makes people look beautiful, comfortable, stylish and stand up as an individual human. So yes, am very happy and especially thankful to Prensa Libre and “Amiga” magazine and all the people who made this great experience possible.

I must say, congratulations to all the people who got involved, especially al the contesters. I saw a lot of pretty things in there; I think we got a brilliant future. In a country where fashion industry is growing and is hard for new designers to make a secure place to stay and show their designs, this is a great push to impulse the talent we got in fashion as Guatemalans and raise the potential we got.

Yesterday jam: the last sheet of summer books

For a lot of people summer is just starting, for us, summer is giving up to the first rain drops. If you live in countries with similar weather as Guatemala you may know that every time you left home, umbrella and sweater must be with you even when is sunny out there. Of course, if is cold outside there is the possibility of dying of a high heat and excess of winter baggage so is necessary to use multiply layers easy to remove.

Para muchos el verano a penas inicia pero para nosotros está desapareciendo con las primeras gotas de lluvia. Si viven en países con un clima similar al de Guatemala, deben saber que cada vez que salen no pueden olvidar la sombrilla y suéter respectivo, aún cuando está soleado afuera. Claro está, si hay frío existe la posibilidad de morir de calor por el exceso de equipaje de invierno que llevamos encima así que es necesario utilizar múltiples capas de prendas fáciles de quitar.

This outfit is an example of that rare season we call “transitional season”. Not summer, not anything (since little people told me that this country only got two seasons, I just can´t believe that yet). When people ask me about the perfect fabrics for transitional season I recommend cotton, all the time. Original denim is made of 100% of cotton fibers, that makes denim a huge favorite because keeps you fresh and absorb humidity with a quickly evaporation process if you pick designs with thin fabric. Denim shirts are also a great favorite of LAZYCATSTYLE, you can see a lot of posts featuring this versatile material, after all the functional issues, there is always going to be the style part, where denim is the master of ready-to-wear outfits, giving us a infinite possibilities of mix and match, even in semi-formal occasions. (Don´t be shy, dear to wear it!).

Este atuendo es un ejemplo de la extraña temporada que llamamos "temporada de transición". No es verano, ni primavera, es todo y es nada ( desde pequeña me dijeron que nuestro país solo tiene dos temporadas, sin embargo aún no me creo del todo esa hipótesis).

Cuando me preguntan acerca de las telas a utilizar en la temporada de transición, siempre recomiendo algodón. El denim puro ( lona o mezclilla para latinoamérica) está hecho de 100% de fibras de algodón, eso lo hace un gran favorito en toda temporada ya que nos mantiene frescos absorviendo la humedad con un rápido proceso de evaporación si elegimos sus presentaciones mas livianas. Es además un tópico predilecto en LAZYCATSTYLE, pueden ver varios posts usando este material tan versátil ( sobretodo en los que incluyo mis clásicas camisas que colecciono casi por inercia). No podemos negar la parte de estilo donde la lona es la reina de los atuendos listos para usarse, por sus infinitas posibilidades de combinaciones, incluso en ocasiones semi-formales. ( No sean tímidos, atrevanse a usarlo!).

Flower prints are major this season, one of our trends featured in Collage trend:s Parte 1 (click to visit). When it comes to prints we must remember that the volume is going directly to the printed piece, especially if the colors are light, we got big patterns and the shape of the piece is not the right according to each kind of body. (I prefer high waist and drop crotch designs, I look smaller in those!). My pick was an abstract flower printed pants, designed for me for caprice I must confess, is not part of a collection.

Los estampados florales son infaltables esta temporada, es una de las tendencias que les presentamos en Collage trends: Parte 1 (click acá para ver post). Cuando se trata de estampados debemos recordar que el volumen irá directamente a la pieza con el patrón, especialmente si los colores son claros, los estampados son grandes y el corte del diseño no es el adecuado según el tipo de cuerpo. ( Personalmente escojo piezas cintura alta y con tiro caído, me veo más pequeña en esos estilos ;). Para éste atuendo utilicé un pantalón estampado con flores abstractas diseñado por mi por capricho debo confesar, no forma parte de ninguna colección.

Remember to add accessories!! Sunglasses are essential, even when is raining out there. The rain is not here yet so this is my last chance to wear sandals for outdoors. The basket handbag gives some extra summer touch and the arm party is optional. I changed it for a metal cuff and rings, you know how much I love rings! ) Add a contrast nail lacquer and light make-up to complete the outfit.

¡Recuerden añadir accesorios! Los anteojos de sol son escenciales, aún cuando hay lluvia. Pero aún no llueve así que es mi última oportunidad de utilizar sandalias para exteriores. La cartera de canasta brinda el toque veraniego y la fiesta de pulseras es opcional. Yo cambié las pulseras por un brazalete de metal y anillos, ustedes saben que adoro los anillos! Agreguen un esmalte de uñas en contraste de color y maquillaje liviano para completar el atuendo.

Collage trends parte 1

Because darling, this is how we feel today.

Flor Oscura: Flower prints are a favorite trend, we like it with a touch of black and a twist of non-traditional use. A little bit of fruits and butterflies. Remember to wear some flower patterns over another flower patterns and a lot of basics in black and white.

Los estampados florales son una de nuestras tendencias favoritas, con un toque de negro y un cambio de uso no tradicional. Un poco de frutas y mariposas. Recuerden de usar los estampados floreados sobre otros estampados floreados y mezclarlos con una montaña de prendas básicas en blanco y negro.

Rosa, me siento rosa: I know RF is not a huge fan of pink, she never has been that kind of "pretty of pink" gal, but this is dedicated to her ( to bug her of course!), Add some leather and lux to complete the look. We like pink, but pink can be rough as well, pink can be more realistic and less fantastic.

Se que RF no es gran seguidora del rosado, nunca fue el tipo de chica "pretty of pink" , por eso esto va dedicado a ella (para molestarla un poco, claro!). Agreguen un poco de cuero y accesorios elegantes y sofisticados para completar el atuendo. Nos gusta el rosa, pero el rosa puede ser tosco también, un poco mas real y menos fantasía.

Pastel, pastel: Again, like we saw some time ago, the macaroons colors are more alive than ever. Don´t get too cheesy, get some pastel colors and make it stylish. Remember to wear accesories! Sunglasses with a gorgeous pastel frame, pretty underwear, some bangles and rings and maybe a Rottweiler in your arms.

Nuevamente, como les mostramos algún tiempo atrás, los colores de macaroons están mas vivos que nunca. Sin exagerar, usar colores pastel y verse con estilo ( no aniñado ni super-lolita) es posible. Hay que recordar agregar accesorios! Anteojos con preciosos aros pastel, ropa interior linda y algunos anillos y pulseras y talvez, solo talvez, un Rotweiller en los brazos.
