The Bell Jar

A few summers ago I found myself in the midst of an existential crisis that seemed not finish. At that time I got "The Bell Jar" on my life, it helped me to define many things and to rescue me from the abyss. I was too identified with  Sylvia's writing and those moments where I also found myself behind the Bell Jar. Today we celebrate the birthday of this great work of literature so I decided to dedicate my post to it. Because of the lack of connection with the post, I will complete the images with quotes from "The Bell Jar".

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

“Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.”

“The trouble was, I had been inadequate all along, I simply hadn't thought about it.”

“When they asked me what I wanted to be I said I didn’t know.
"Oh, sure you know," the photographer said.
"She wants," said Jay Cee wittily, "to be everything.”

“because wherever I sat—on the deck of a ship or at a street café in Paris or Bangkok—I would be sitting under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air.”

I didn't know why I was going to cry, but I knew that if anybody spoke to me or looked at me too closely the tears would fly out of my eyes and the sobs would fly out of the throat and I'd cry for a week.”

“So I began to think maybe it was true that when you were married and had children it was like being brainwashed, and afterward you went about as numb as a slave in a totalitarian state.”

“I thought the most beautiful thing in the world must be shadow, the million moving shapes and cul-de-sacs of shadow. There was shadow in bureau drawers and closets and suitcases, and shadow under houses and trees and stones, and shadow at the back of people's eyes and smiles, and shadow, miles and miles and miles of it, on the night side of the earth.”

And I`ll finish with this:

"I write only because
There is a voice within me
That will not be still”

Happy Holidays!

Despite not being a great fan of the holidays, I admit that I have enjoyed meeting with friends and family, enjoy a snack in  that only December allows and finally sit in a corner  to read after the post holiday sales/shopping anxiety.

I share my holiday outfit. Alluded colors included. Some vintage, some fur, do not miss the crop top and the inconsistency (or perhaps insistence) to wear sandals when your feet are frozen by cold temperatures.
Les comparto  navideño que he usado jamás. Colores alusivos incluidos.

After all, the matter at this time is not exactly to war the best outfit. The goal is to enjoy and share. Without much ceremony, from all Lazycatstyle team, we wish you happy holidays!

Yesterday jam: Vintage treasures

Maybe you saw our Giveaway post and notice one of this unpublished pictures. I am OBSSESED with Vintage coats, jacket and blazers, and i was in heaven when I met this baby in the thrift store some weeks ago.

I guess there is something magic in vintage treasures, the stories behind the piece, the mystery of the previous owner. Think in a positive way about a used piece was very hard for me at the beginning but at the end i got the crush with the unique pieces, the charming of an old design and old trends that never fades.

Is the previous owner of my military jacket alive? Is a guy or a girl? Is this jacket a heritage of  a genius mind,  lost in some corner of the world? Maybe some day I will know, the possibilities says that definitely i am not going to know but maybe History Chanel buy my story and makes a reality show to track all the previous owners of all my vintage closet.

Until that happened, i am going to wear this wonderful jacket, with my favorite last season modern pieces, like my Médium "Frida" block in color clutch and the "Moon" Médium necklace. And yes, for all of you who entered the giveaway, thank you so much, congratulation to the winner and stay tuned for more free love!

Golden Accents

It's been a while since golden accents began to re-appear in fashion.... after seasons of pure silver and black paired together the warmth of gold began to be needed. I started to turn my head towards golden stuff back when Nicole Richie created her first collection and brand "House of Harlow". I thought to myself ... why gold in the middle of a silver era? I totally understood why, the moment i bought something with golden accents, is light but it's elegant and sweet but its not cold like silver..  silver makes me think of winter, in those afternoons that provide us with white dim light due to clouds, but gold reminds me of sun of honey and how light passes through it. In this picture is everything i own that has something gold in it, and now an outfit using some.

Yesterday jam: bitter-sweet

Lately my style is a contrast between the bounderies of the things i like, that`s why the title of this post is Bitter-Sweet. I think this outfit goes for the sweet side. This gourgeous dress was a gift long time ago and is actually a children dress, is strapless with an amazing and refreshing daisies print. I putted a shirt under the dress and a lace tie to make it more fun and sofisticated (and because the weather!)

Of course i can`t forget the outerwear, a lovely Saul E. Mendez blazer joined my outfit (The shirt is also Saul E. Mendez) and the fun socks with peep toe shoes combo.
I wore this the last weekend in a family reunion so i decided to rest a little of huge oversize bags and wear this cute Zara quilted bag. I paired my outfits with some brooches and a Zara studded belt.

P.S: am so happy about the Vargas Llosa's Nobel prize, he changed my mind with the Miami Herald columns and of course, "La tía Julia y el escribidor", I know is out of place but if you can read a Vargas Llosa`s book, do it! you`ll see, worth every page, he is amazing.
